Prof. Dr. Danilo Sciarrone is associate Professor in Analytical Chemistry at the Scienze Chimiche, Biologiche, Farmaceutiche ed Ambientali Department of the University of Messina, Italy. He received a degree in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Messina on March 2004 with a grade of 110 on 110 cum laude. In March 2008 he received a PhD in “Food Chemistry and Safety” at the University of Messina, Italy, collaborating to the realization of the projects of the research group in the field of the food chemistry and analytical chemistry. In august of the same year he started as researcher with a temporary position with the title “Development of innovative micro multidimensional chromatographic systems for the analysis of complex matrices”.
He was the national coordinator (PI) of the FIRB project “Futuro in Ricerca” “Tecniche analitiche avanzate per l’analisi di contaminanti negli alimenti” approved and financed in 2010 and local coordinator of the PRIN 2015 national project “Multifunctional nanotools for advanced cancer diagnostics”. Prof. Sciarrone teaches the course of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Messina for the courses of Pharmacy, Biotechnologies, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology and is member of the PhD course in Chemical Sciences.
In December 2008 he received a travel grant for the International Meeting on Liquid Chromatography (HPLC2008) held in Kyoto, Japan, for the presentation of an oral contribution entitled “Analysis of Diesel By Means of Off-line Tridimensional Comprehensive Chromatography LC-GCxGC Coupled with a MS Detector”. Other travel grant were provided for national meeting in 2008 and 2010 for the Food Chemistry symposia, and for the 34th International Symposium on Capillary Chromatography (ISCC 2010) in Riva del Garda. In 2012 was the recipient of the Leslie Ettre Award for the best presentation related with capillary gas chromatography: Environmental and Food Applications and the TASIA 2013 Award (The Analytical Scientist Innovation Award). He attended to different courses: the mass spectrometry, organized by the Italian Chemical Society at the Certosa di Siena in April 2008, SPME courses at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Messina and to a course about Isotopic Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS). He participated to the research project “Tecniche cromatografiche multidimensionali (LCxLC, LCxGC, GCxGC) per l’analisi di olii e grassi” (PRIN 2005), and to the Progetto di Ricerca d’Ateneo (PRA2005) entitled “Metodi analitici innovativi per l’analisi di miscele complesse”. His interest regards the application of chromatographic techniques like LC, LCxLC, GC, GCxGC, LCxGC, GC-MS, MDGC, SPME-GC, chiral GC, and the development of innovative and fast chromatographic techniques. He was member of the organizzative committee at the 35th International Symposium on Essential Oils (ISEO2004) held in Taormina (Messina, Italy) on September 2004 and of the Italian Analytical Chemistry Division on September 2016 held in Giardini Naxos (Messina, Italy).
Prof. Danilo Sciarrone PhD is author and co-author of 4 book chapters, 113 proceedings and 50 articles on international journals with referees, based on the application of fast and multidimensional chromatographic techniques applied for the investigation of allergens in different matrices as essential oils, fuels and human and food fatty matrices using advanced analytical techniques developed in the same research laboratory of the University of Messina. He is referee for Journal Separation Science, Journal Chromatography A, Journal of Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry, South African Journal of Botanic, Journal of Essential Oil research, Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Chromatographia, Journal of Science of Food and Agriculture and Flavour and Fragrance Journal. From January 2011 he had a position as Researcher in CHIM01 – Analytical chemistry. From August 2015 he is associate Professor in analytical chemistry.
